Welcome to the New York NOVAS track club, to both you and your child. We hope that you find the experience of participating on this track team as enjoyable as the hundreds of youth who have been a part of the program over the past 14 years! You should be proud to be a part of the longest running program of its kind in all of New York! We were founded on September 9, 1989 will celebrate our 14th anniversary in 2003. The program director, George Taylor has been with the program from the beginning. After winning the most valuable award and cited as the most outstanding captain of all the athlectic programs at the state university of Stony Brook, he brought his leadership skills to the youth of Queens. The Club began with only 6 girls and 2 boys the first year, but now has blossomed to over 80 registered youth and 6 USA T+F certified coaches.

The team welcomes youth from the ages of 6-17 and adults for our adult fitness club. The NOVAS is a competitive program, but we allow children of all abilities to participate. The youth on the club range from very competitive national champions to those that just run for fun. We promote a family type atmosphere, but are very strict with regards to conduct, behavior towards each other and academic excellence. Grover Prince, our track advisor is also a level 2 coach, making this the only club in the region with two level 2 coaches. Lisa Hinds, Felicia Brown, Veronica McLean, and Donna Williams are level 1 certified and are helping other parents learn how to become certified as well.

Your expectations may not be quite as high, but we do ask that you and your child take your participation on the club seriously. As you might guess, the NOVAS club has many dedicated parents who also volunteer and work many hours for the benefit of all of our children. Help is always appreciated in any area that you can lend a hand. Please fill our the parent participation form and hand it in as soon as you can. Major needs include: driving, typing and fundraising.

PRACTICE:
Our practices are the cornerstone of our organization. Many hours are spent in preparation for these sessions. Many more hours are spent after practices to analyze your child's performances and to make sure that we are meeting our goals. Needless to say we would like to see your child ateach one! We understand that things come up which may not allow you to attend a practice, in the event you must miss a day please call the director or division leader to let them know. It will not excuse you, but it will let us know that you take your attendance seriously. The minimum number of practices you must attend each week is 2. Missed practices may be made up during the same week only. Call the director if you want to make up a day.

SEASONAL DUES: The cost per child per month is set at the annual team meeting and is due during the first week of each month or when your child begins practice. Parents pay dues in many ways: 1) Pay by check or cash before the month/season begins 2) Sell fundraiser candy (30-$1 pieces per box) and you will receive per box sold towards next month's dues or future trips. This is a favorite of many team members because of the variety of candy available and the ease in selling bars for just $1. 3) Selected team monthly fundraisers can also go towards the members personal dues (determined at the parents meetings). The monthly dues only partially covers all that your child will receive. Uniform items, insdurance cards, footwear, entries to meets and transportation costs will all be FREE for your child. You will not have to pay for any other team item unless you lose something and will have to replace it. The dues do not pay for any NOVAS track team expenses, such as equipment, insurance or administrative items. These costs are met by the team fundraisers which are vital to our existence. Any info for grants or fundraisers which can help to reduce the cost for all of our team members will be greatly appreciated.

RACES:
Everyone in the program will attend races during each season. Developmental races in the beginning of each season are for all team members! Even if you have only practiced for one week, there will be events that you can enter. The only other requirement is that your season's dues are paid up to date (due by the first practice of every season). Selections for championship races are based on qualifying times or the place your child comes in during selected races. If your child runs a fast enough time in any developmental race, then they are eligible for all upcoming championship races. See the list of qualifying times for all events in NY NOVAS NEWSLETTER (published monthly).

ADMINISTRATION:
The registration fee of pays for your child's ID card. A folder must be made for each child and must contain the following: 1) Application 2) Medical Form 3) Birth Certificate 4) Picture 5) Copy of childs most recent report card 6) Insurance card 7)Practice registration form 8) Parent participation form. As we are registered members of USA track & field and the local Metropolitan Athletic Congress (Club #866) these are the requirements.
