NOVAS Youth Club Newsletter April 2003

Spring is finally here and that means the outdoor season is already upon us! It is time to get ready to battle the rain and cool temperatures of spring, which will lead us into the humid and hot days of the summer. With many new members and most of the team in the lower part of the division, this should be a rebuilding year for the club. But knowing the history of the club and the commitment and dedication of both the youth and coaching staff, being the underdogs will not stop us on our quest to return to the nationals this summer.

The Youth Nationals will be held in Buffalo, New York close to the July 4th weekend and the Junior Olympics will be held in sunny (hopefully)Miami, Florida the last week of July. We are looking at one more traveling meet, possibly the East Coast Invite, also in July.

Practice in April is very important for success later in the season. There is no way to cram extra practices late in the season and try to qualify for national meets. It just will not work. Practicing from the beginning of the season on a consistent basis is the only formula for success. Encourage other youth to come out as soon as possible because registration for the outdoor season ends on April 24th.

The coaching staff would like to welcome the new youth who braved the cold on Friday, April 18 to participate in the Novas Time Trials #1. The tempreature was 49 degrees, but the blustery wind made it feel a lot colder. What made the wind worse was that it was blowing right in the faces of the runners trying to get to the finish line. The newcomers included, Sierra (9yrs) and Johnathon (7yrs) Grimsley, Sub boy Preston, Just turned 7 yrs old Alexis, 11yr old Sherri-Ann and her 13 year old sister Jenelle and the naturally talented 13 yr old Shanell.
